Effective January 1, 2006, Talking Pages will send out and receive in return its audio books as “Free Matter for the Blind and Other Physically Handicapped Persons.” This service offered by the United States Postal System will enable us to use our cash donations to purchase additional audio books, rather than continue to pay postage for our users. However, in order to use the “Free Matter” designation, Talking Pages will require existing library card holders and new library card applicants to send us a statement that the user is visually impaired according to the standards of the US Post Office. This certification only needs to be sent in one time, not with each request to borrow an audio book. The certification can be sent to Talking Pages in one of two ways: 1) by mail to Talking Pages, 10 Edgewood Drive, Unit 6A, Greenwich, CT 06821, or 2) by email containing a scanned image of a letter to talkingpages@att.net. Library users may send either a previously written certification letter or prepare a letter such as the following: To Whom It May Concern:
Signature, Printed Name, and Title of Certifying Authority
1) Postmaster with knowledge of your condition 2) A doctor of medicine 3) A doctor of osteopathy 4) An ophthalmologist 5) An optometrist 6) A registered nurse 7) A professional staff member of a hospital, an institution, or a public or private welfare agency 8) A professional librarian. After January 1, 2006, only users who have submitted the required certification will be able to receive audio books from Talking Pages, Inc. Any questions may be sent by email to talkingpages@att.net.
